Dr. Gipson is an Alabama native and received his undergraduate degree at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. He graduated medical school at Washington University in St. Louis MO. and his ophthalmology residency at Tulane Medical School in New Orleans LA. Dr. Gipson is a board certified ophthalmologist and practiced in Mobile AL for over 20 years. He has been practicing in Biloxi and Gulfport MS for the last 16 years, where he specializes in ophthalmic plastic surgery.
Dr. Gipson is a member of the International Association of Low Vision Specialists, the American Academy of Ophthalmology and he is licensed in the states of Alabama, Mississippi and Georgia.
He provides low vision evaluations and specialized low vision telescopic and microscopic eyeglasses to help restore vision loss from such conditions as Macular Degeneration, Diabetes, Glaucoma and Inoperable Cataracts, to name a few.
These specialized eyeglasses can be worn full time or for specific tasks such as reading, television, driving and seeing peoples faces.
Low Vision evaluations take approximately 1 ½ hours and patients will actually be able to see how much improvement can be achieved during the examination.
These specialized glasses can cost between $450 and $3500, so judicious prescribing of them is a must. Even though these special eyeglasses are costly, maintaining independence is of utmost importance to most of his patients, and the vast majority of them will report that the investment in their independence is well worth the cost.
