Richard J. Shuldiner, O.D., F.A.A.O., founded the International Academy of Low Vision Specialists in 2006. All of the members of the Academy have received extensive advanced training in Low Vision Care by Dr. Shuldiner.
Richard J. Shuldiner, O.D., F.A.A.O., attended Long Island University from 1964-1966 and received his Doctor of Optometry degree from Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 1970. He completed an internship and residency in Vision and Child Development in New York. In 1975, he received certification in Low Vision from the New York State Optometric Association.
In 1988, Dr. Shuldiner became the 41st Low Vision Diplomate from the American Academy of Optometry. Currently, there are 45 practicing diplomates in Low Vision.
Dr. Shuldiner is Clinical Director of LOW VISION OPTOMETRY of Southern California and LOW VISION OPTOMETRY of New York. Dr. Shuldiner has offices in Glendale, Palm Springs, Mission Viejo, Corona, Long Beach, and La Jolla. He sees patients in New York City once per month.
Dr. Shuldiner created and, for 11 years, served as clinical director of the Westchester Lighthouse Low Vision Clinic in New York. He was also an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at New York Medical College. Dr. Shuldiner was instrumental in establishing the "Dutchess Lighthouse", a new agency for the blind,in Poughkeepsie, New York, in July, 1985.
Dr. Shuldiner has lectured on Low Vision Care to eye professionals in Russia, China, Hong Kong, Africa and throughout the United States. He has had numerous articles published in the optometric literature and has been featured in many newspapers for his work in contact lenses, and with the visually impaired. The Southern California low vision doctor has been on television and radio, educating the public on the need for routine eye-health care.
Dr. Shuldiner trains doctors of optometry to add low vision care to their practice. All of the members of the International Academy of Low Vision Specialists have received extensive advanced training by Dr. Shuldiner.
