Indiana low vision specialist, W. Jarrod Long, O.D received his Bachelor of Science from Indiana University and went on to graduate from the Indiana University School of Optometry in 1996. He then completed a hospital-based ocular disease residency at the Hudson Valley Veteran’s Hospital in Westchester County, New York. During his residency, he received Low Vision Certification for completing the Comprehensive Low Vision Care course at the Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired in New York City.
In November, 1997 Dr. Long and his wife, Angela Long, O.D., opened Long Family Eye Care, P.C. in Bloomington, Indiana to practice general optometry and for Dr. Jarrod Long to develop his low vision specialty. Since opening, he has devoted much of his time to improving his low vision skills and lecturing on low vision care. In addition to his duties as an Indiana low vision doctor, Dr. Long has been on staff at the I.U. School of Optometry and proctored students for general and low vision examinations.
In May, 2003 Dr. Long opened an Indiana low vision center, called the Vision Aid Center, inside Long Family Eye Care. The Indiana low vision center offers low vision patients better access to a wide variety of non-prescription low vision aids. In May, 2006 he trained for a week in Southern California with renowned Low Vision Diplomate, Richard Shuldiner, O.D., F.A.A.O. and Dr. Long is now recognized as a Fellow in the International Academy of Low Vision Specialists. Dr. Long’s care and treatment of low vision patients continues to improve and his skills have expanded dramatically thanks to this intense training in advanced low vision care. Dr. Long is a highly regarded Low vision specialist in Indiana.
Dr. Long formed Midwest Low Vision in June, 2006 to reach out and help a much broader population of patients in need of low vision services throughout the Midwest. In addition to the Bloomington Indiana location, current satellite offices include Fishers, New Albany, Lafayette, and Covington.
As a member of the Bloomington Chamber of Commerce and the Bloomington Sunrise Rotary Club, Dr. Long supports the growth of his community. He and his wife have two young daughters, Emily and Madelyn – and the family enjoys hiking, biking and “movie nights.”
