Dr. Smith is a Michigan Low Vision Doctor, who earned his Doctor of Optometry degree with honors from Ferris State University College of Optometry in Big Rapids, Michigan in 1988.

Dr. Smith is a member of the American Optometric Association (AOA), the Michigan Optometric Association (MOA) and the Metro Detroit Optometric Society (MDOS).

Dr. Smith is a Fellow in the International Academy of Low Vision Specialists and belongs to the AOA Low Vision Section. He has frequently lectured about Low Vision Care, Macular Degeneration and Nutrition. When not serving as a Michigan low vision doctor, Dr. Smith is active in his community. He has been a lifelong musician and enjoys singing and playing both standup and electric bass. He has two teenage children.
