Visual Acuity:

20/40 in the better eye, with or without corrective lenses.

Limited Vision Condition: means visual acuity in the better eye with best lens correction that is no better than 20/80 and no worse than 20/200.


A person with a limited vision condition may obtain a drivers license if they meet the following:

a) no ocular diagnosis that may result in deterioration of the person's corrected vision below a 20/200 level.

b) visual field of at least 120 degrees horizontally and 80 degrees vertically.

c) would be aided by using a bioptic telescopic lens when operating a motor vehicle.

d) is fitted by the licensed vision specialist with a bioptic telescopic lens mounted on the carrier lens

e) provides a certificate of completion of a rehabilitation training program

f) has the following restrictions:    daylight driving only; not greater than 45 mph;


Visual Field: 

110 degrees in the horizontal meridian except as above for limited vision condition.

Bioptic telescopes are not permitted to meet visual acuity standards, but may be used for driving.
